FAQ
About Our Free Courses
Are the courses really free?
Yes. Every exam prep course is free, with no registration, payment, or sign-up required.
How do I get started?
Visit our Exam Preparation page, choose your exam, and press play. That's it.
Which exams do you cover?
We currently offer free prep for the CMAA, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, and CPB exams. RHIT and RHIA prep is coming soon.
Are the courses online or in person?
All courses are online and available on YouTube, so you can learn anytime, anywhere, at your own pace.
Can learners outside the United States use the courses?
Yes. Anyone with an internet connection can watch our courses for free.
What order should I watch the videos in?
Each course is a YouTube playlist arranged in order. Start with the first video and work your way through.
How much time should I spend studying?
The courses are self-paced, so you set the schedule. Many learners find that a few hours each week, practicing along with the videos, builds steady progress toward exam day.
Are there any prerequisites for the courses?
No. Anyone can watch our courses. Keep in mind that each certifying organization sets its own eligibility requirements to sit for the exam. For example, the RHIT and RHIA require a degree from an accredited program.
Are coding manuals included?
No. For the coding courses (CCA, CCS, CCS-P), you will need your own copies of the current year's code books. Practice along with each lesson for the best results.
Do the courses include E/M coding?
Yes. Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding is covered in the CCS-P course.
Will I receive a certificate or CEUs?
No. Our courses prepare you for your exam but do not award certificates or continuing education units (CEUs). Your credential comes from the certifying organization when you pass.
Can you answer my individual coding questions?
We aren't able to answer every individual coding question, but many common topics are covered in the course videos. Leaving a comment on YouTube is also a great way to connect with other learners.
Exams and Careers
Is the cost of the exam included?
No. Exam fees are paid directly to the certifying organization when you register.
How do I register for my exam?
What is a medical coder?
A medical coder is a non-clinical healthcare professional who reviews medical record documentation and translates diagnoses and procedures into standardized codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
What is a medical biller?
A medical biller is a non-clinical healthcare professional who manages the revenue cycle from patient to payment. Billers submit claims, follow payer requirements, and resolve denials so healthcare providers are paid correctly.
What skills make a good coder or biller?
Strong coders and billers are detail-oriented, think critically, communicate well, work well in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy reading and research.
Is a certification or a degree better?
It depends on your goals. Many entry-level coding, billing, and medical administrative roles require a certification, while the RHIT and RHIA require a degree from an accredited program. Many professionals start with a certification and build from there.
What is the typical salary for coders and billers?
Do you offer job placement?
We do not offer job placement services or guarantee employment. Our goal is to help you prepare to earn the credential that opens the door.
